Dear Praying Friends,
Here we are in the middle of summer and more than half way through 2011.
We hope each of you are well and having a good year. We have been busy
as always and have a lot to tell you about. I hope you can take a few
minutes, read this letter and catch up on what is going on with us.
Ministry Update
The work here at Needmore continues to progress slowly but surely. Since
our last letter the church has purchased a used van, so we are not using
personal vans for the Sunday pickups anymore, the church also took on
two new missionaries. We have had both new and repeat visitors and
things are continuing in the right direction.
We have a couple of projects that need to get done this summer please
pray with us that these projects will get accomplished.
Since our last letter Carmen and I traveled to Richfield, OH to spend a
Sunday with our friends the Davis’ & Bible Baptist Church. The first
time I preached at Bible Baptist was 1997. We were there every year for
more than a decade and now get in every once in a while. It is always a
good time and this trip was no
exception. We left the kids here, David II preached for me and we had a
little alone time.
We are presently getting ready for our lone revival meeting this year.
In August we will travel to PA to be with Pastor Erik Lingenfelter and
Emmanuel Baptist Church in Claysburg. Since this is home, we are hoping
the whole family will be making the trip, We would all be grateful if
you would pray that Carmen would feel well enough to make the trip and
then if she can that she will “survive” the trip.
On another note. Since our last letter our home church (Lincoln Ave.
Baptist in Ionia) has called a new pastor. Pastor Jeffrey Smith has
officially moved and things seem to be going well. Please pray for him,
his family and the church as they get settled in, adjust to each other
and get to work.
Family Update
There is certainly no shortage on
activity for our family so far this
summer. I guess the biggest news is that David II is now a High School
graduate. He has decided to continue his studies at Calvary Baptist
Bible Institute & Seminary by correspondence. I have three degrees from
them, I like the program and am excited for him to get started. In
addition to getting some quality education at a reasonable price, it
will also enable him to continue to work in our ministry and gain
valuable experience. In a typical month he will find himself leading
singing, singing specials, preaching in Junior church, regular church
and at the rescue mission, working on our bus visitation as well as our
regular door to door work as well. He also gets in on maintenance of the
grounds and any remodeling that may be going on. In short, these
activities along with 20 hours a week of book work, will prepare him
well for the ministry that God has for him.
Emilee is now our lone High School student, she has two years left and
she will be done also. This seems to have snuck up on us and while a bit
of a shock also a bit of a sigh of relief.
As of this writing all three of our kids are in Louisiana for about
three weeks visiting friends. They are having a great time and also
being given lots of opportunity to serve the Lord while they are there.
David II was asked to preach the Sunday evening service, I know I am a
bit partial, but I thought he did an outstanding job (we were able to
listen over the internet). The kids are also taking part in the back
yard bible clubs the church is having while they are there. Our kids
group has already had 3 saved and Emilee is wanting to bring one of them
home.
Shortly after they get back Lena will board the train for New York City
and spend several weeks with our friends the Swiatkowski family in NJ.
While she is out there she will no doubt have opportunities to help out
at their church as well as travel to a Bible conference.
Carmen & I are getting a preview of what the empty nest will be like. As
you might imagine we are having a hard time dealing with the quiet but
enjoying the time we have together and thinking we will survive.
Carmen is continuing to improve ever so slowly. She stays pretty
frustrated that there is not faster progress but we are glad that there
is progress, Please continue to pray for her health.
